Human cells are always being damaged through normal metabolism. When cells die but stay in your body and are not metabolized they are called senescent and they can go through processes that damage nearby cells. Accumulation of these cells is linked to aging symptoms which can lead to mental and physical frailty. These senescent cells are also known as zombie cells. They’re not completely dead but take up space and are not repairing tissue or carrying out normal functions. They are a drain on your system and you body gradually deteriorates. There have been animal studies showing that removing these zombie, or senescent cells reverses, not only slows down but reverses the aging process, extends lifespan and restores lost youth.

There have been recent human trials on medication that sweeps away these aging-related zombie cells and the results look promising. The treatment involves a drug called dasatnib which is already licensed for killing cancer cells in leukaemia patients and quercetin, a common plant pigment found red wine, onions, green tea, apples, berries, Ginkgo biloba and St John’s Wort.

The study showed that the drug combination began clearing out the cells within just 30 minutes and within 24 hours all senescent cells were gone.
This drug has passed two major hurdles, the animal tests and the first human trails. Both looked very promising and more human trails are forthcoming because scientists are very excited about this. In a few years, humans will experience a reversal of the aging process as opposed to slowing down the aging process, and this is just the beginning.
