The genuine bodybuilders of the 40’s-60’s were to me the greatest. Their physiques were all natural and symmetry was the goal. Of them all, I have to say John Grimek was the greatest bodybuilder who ever lived with Steve Reeves a close second. To today’s so-called “bodybuilders” symmetry means nothing. Only massiveness and size matter. They all look like exaggerated cartoon figures with bloated bellies and to me, ugly bodies. It was Steve Reeves who at first inspired me to take up bodybuilding and then John Grimek and I could not have had any two greater bodybuilders with which to emulate. They will always be my inspiration and my physical Gods. There were others, too, like Reg Park, Bill Pearl and Clancy Ross. But, during Schwarzenegger’s era, when steroid usage became the thing and when size became paramount my interest waned. No wonder so many of todays “bodybuilders” are dropping dead. They’re idiots to take steroids. There will NEVER BE ANOTHER GRIMEK OR REEVES!
