William Smith- March 24, 1933 – July 5, 2021

William Smith, born on March 24, 1933, and sadly passing away on July 5, 2021, was a prolific American actor whose Hollywood career spanned an impressive 75 years. Throughout this remarkable journey, he left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry by gracing nearly three hundred feature films and television productions. Smith showcased his incredible versatility by taking on a wide array of character roles, but he is perhaps best remembered for his portrayal of the menacing and unforgettable Anthony Falconetti in the 1970s television mini-series “Rich Man, Poor Man.”

Despite his extensive filmography, some of his most iconic and memorable appearances include his role in the 1980 film “Any Which Way You Can,” where he shared the screen with Clint Eastwood. In “Conan the Barbarian” (1982), Smith played an integral part in the epic tale, and he further solidified his status as a respected actor in movies like “Rumble Fish” (1983) and “Red Dawn” (1984).

Smith’s contributions to the film industry extended beyond mainstream cinema. He took on lead roles in several exploitation films during the 1970s, becoming a prominent figure in this often controversial and boundary-pushing genre.

Although it was widely reported that Smith had retired from the film industry in 2014, marking the end of an illustrious career, he did make a surprise cameo appearance in the 2020 Steve Carell comedy “Irresistible.” This unexpected return delighted both his long-time fans and new generations of moviegoers who had the chance to witness his talent on the big screen.

Tragically, on July 5, 2021, William Smith passed away at the age of 88. His final moments were spent at the Motion Picture and Television Country House and Hospital in Los Angeles. His death marked the end of a legendary career, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the world of cinema. William Smith’s dedication, versatility, and memorable performances will continue to be celebrated by film enthusiasts and admirers of his work for generations to come.

  1. I didn’t know that, thanks. William Smith was able to play a wide range of roles throughout his career and definitely made an impression in any movie he was in. RIP William Smith.

  2. Smith left the Air Force not because he got an acting job, but because he married a foreign national which disqualified him from having a Top Secret clearance
